Recreational snowshoeing boots don't require a lot of traction or stiffness; traditional mukluks were sewn animal skins and furs that primarily provided warmth. The faux-fur-lined Lynx has more support than a mukluk, though, and excellent heat retention thanks to a layer of Thermalite insulation. The soft, flexible midsole, while not supportive enough for hiking with an overnight load, is stable enough for nontechnical treks of a day or less.

The high-cut canvas, leather, and rubber upper was reliably waterproof in snow, but don't go wading through streams, as the seams are not sealed. On a trip to New York's Marcy Dam, one tester called them "deliciously comfortable and warm." Style points: They're cute (or handsome) enough for après skiwear or a slushy night on the town; the men's model has a svelte, black combat-style look.
