Lakota Indians can claim one of the original trail snacks; they pounded dried buffalo meat together with chokecherries. Now, their descendents living on South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Reservation have updated the process to bring hikers the best jerky we’ve tasted.
The spicy version, with buffalo meat, dried cranberries, spices, and peppers (including habanero), delivers seven grams of protein and 70 calories per ounce in a flavor hit that puts all other protein snacks to shame.
Bonus: No preservatives, just grass-fed buffalo bliss. $6/two 1-oz. bars; $15/two 3-oz. packs of Tanka Bites; tankabar.com
Expensive, yes, but math is a bit off. Comes in under $50/lb, which, for really good jerky, is not unusually high.

I, too, have tried these, and I absolutely love them. Unfortunately, nobody carries them around me, so I have to order them from Tanka themselves (skip the middle man, let the creators get all the profit!).
And like SM stated, even the spicy ones are not that spicy.
Very good stuff.

Two thoughts as I read this...
Thought 1-Yum
Thought 2-Bear bait in a bag if I've ever seen it. Meat, spice, berries, all the things our furry friends love. Don't sleep with these under your pillow for easy midnight snackin' in Bear country!
Now...snack on campers ;)

I purchased some of these Tanka products, based on your last issue, and I must say, that are quite tasty. Even the HOT ones are not that hot, but the bite does add a nice flavor.
Kudos to Tanka. A very good product, even if they are hard to locate . . . .
