Earth Day Turns 40

do you know what it's all about?

Earth Day--it's one of those holidays that we're all aware of, even if we're not totally sure why it exists. For many of is, it gives us the vague sense that we should be turning off lights, signing petitions to save wolves and biking to work.

Earth Day was founded 40 years ago today by Senator Gaylord Nelson to help Americans make the environment a political issue. In its first year, 1970, more than 20 million demonstrators got involved in grassroots actions on Earth Day.

This year, Mother Nature Network has charted environmental highlights in a year-by-year
animated synopsis of environmental gains and losses since Earth Day was founded.

What will you do today to take action?

-Berne Broudy
