Pre-race shots
Location: 39.753534, -105.012141
Jon Dorn and Shannon Davis down some 5 Hour Energy a few minutes before the gun. It should be noted that, for Jon, this shot capped off a breakfast of a bagel, banana, a cinnamon roll the size of a muskmelon, and an Amp energy drink. Who knows what else he consumed--he was unsupervised for short periods.
Dirty trick
Location: 39.769, -105.001667
Just as the race was about to start, the officials said "send your team's best navigator to the front of the line." Then, they threw a bag over his head and put him on a bus heading to an unknown location. That's Jon Dorn in the bag.
Go team!
Location: 39.754161, -105.009094
On our way to climb stairs in the Hyatt, someone gets a little fired up.
Waterslide challenge
Location: 39.750833, -105.0115
in this passport challenge, we ducked into the service entrance at Water World and had to take an action shot of two team members on a ride. It was 97 degrees out, so we went straight to the water slide.
Where scooters come from
Location: 39.762037, -105.006938
Second to last challenge of the day: Eat a cupcake without using your hands, then speed around the block on a motor scooter to retrieve clues for our final challenge (which was beer pong at a pub near Coors Field).
God bless the light rail.
Location: 39.685344, -104.964988
After hammering our way to the soccer fields at Denver University (where we had to score 3 goals and then find 4 tennis balls while blind folded), we decided to hop the light rail to return to the transition area. The air conditioning was glorious.
Finish!

We were psyched at the end of such a fun race--and twice as psyched to cash in our free Deschutes beer and Chipotle burrito tickets.
The Oyster is an urban adventure race that's part Eco-Challenge and part Amazing Race, but way shorter and, if i do say so, surely more fun. Before the race, you know that you'll be biking and running, but the rest is kept a secret until you get your Passport which outlines your next destination, task, and mode of travel. Then you get another Passport, and so on.
Jonathan Dorn, Katie Herrell, and I raced this past weekend. Over the course of our day, we hunted obscure sculptures, made guacamole at the original Chipotle Mexican Grille, ran stairs in the Hyatt, played name that tune in a weird basement showbar, snuck into Water World, drove motor scooters, played beer pong and more. It was 34 miles of pure fun.
Here's a look at our tracklog and some photos and video.
