Spokane, WA: Three Peaks Loop

wa

Star Star Star Star Star

Tag Mount Kit Carson, Day Mountain, and Mount Spokane on this 14-mile dayhike that tracks through 100-year-old Douglas fir and meadows covered in larkspur and phlox.

This 14-miler, less than an hour from Spokane, links three summits and showcases views into Idaho, Montana, and Canada. Start at the Sno-Park and follow Trail 130 through the trees. After hiking across the meadow at Bald Knob Campground, cross the main road and traverse an open hillside with views of Spokane Valley and Coeur d'Alene. At the end of Trail 130, take a break at the old CCC cabin (now a snowmobile lodge in the winter and picnic destination in the summer) or continue downhill on the Mount Kit Carson Loop Road to the intersection with Trail 115.

From here, the trail climbs past rocky outcroppings on Mount Kit Carson and views of the Chatteroy area. Take the unmarked side trail to Day Mountain for some of the best wildlife viewing in the park. The trail eventually drops back to the Mount Kit Carson Loop Road and the intersection with Trails 135 and 115. Take Trail 135 to the summit of Mount Spokane. Take in views from the third summit of the day, then backtrack to the trailhead.
