The 24.2-mile Devils Path is one of the area’s most popular and challenging shuttle hikes for extended backpacking. Starting at the Prediger Road trailhead, the trail traverses 7 peaks, including Westkill, Sugarloaf, Hunter, and Twin, and boasts a cumulative elevation gain of more than 18,000 ft. on varying and rugged terrain. Plan wisely--there are only four lean-tos at Diamond Notch, Mink Hollow, Devil’s Kitchen, and Devil’s Acre (Hunter). Watch for hand-tooled stones along the trails, fallen from ox-drawn quarry wagons during the early 1800’s. Water sources are limited; a seasonal spring is located near the junction of Devils Path and the yellow-blazed Hunter Mountain Trail.
