| NATIONAL PARKS QUICKLINKS |
This hike takes you through the full range of hiking emotions. Dissappointment. The begginning (and the end) is rather dull. You meander through forest, without much to see. Also do not forget the bug dope, because they are especially thick around the beaver damn areas. Exhiliration. Getting about the tree line, and hiking along the gorge allows you to see some tremendous shots of the skyline and some beautiful waterfalls. Trepidation. On mile marker 7 we observed a sleeping black bear. My dog behaved and I was able to get some good pictures, until I had to wake it up. I only woke him up so I woulddn't startle him as I passed. Satisfaction. Getting to the top of this long hike takes forever, especially with bear delays, you feel quite good upon completion. Things I would have done different on this trip, would be to make sure I had the bug dope, and I think I would make this a 2-dayer.
