We were supposed to have mid-70's with rain in the later afternoon. What we got when halfway to the Flatirn was 40+ per hour mile winds. It was to be the second trip up for a couple of 10 year old boys, and a first for a couple of teenage girls. With winds like that, though, we had to turn back at the basin. We saw a number of other dayhikers intending to make it to the top. Wishing them luck, we headed back to the cars after a windy, cold lunch.
