This 5.2-mile hike for snowshoers and cross-country skiers alike offers a peaceful respite from the motorized world. Snowmobiles aren't allowed on the trail, making it easier to hear the gurgle of the creek and the crunch of the snow-covered trail. From the northwest corner of the parking area start this intermediate hike by bearing right onto the Pine Martin Ski Trail (#245E). A couple of ski trails intersect with the Pine Martin trail, but continue straight on the trail until it briefly merges with FR 83.
After crossing Lake Creek, which is fed by June Lake, bear left to reconnect with the Pine Martin Trail. Continue past the June Lake Trailhead and listen for the calming sound of the nearby creek. The trail slowly climbs through a young fir forest. Enjoy views of Mount St. Helens as you make your way to frozen June Lake. At the lake, turn left onto Trail #244D for 0.6 mile, then take a left at the Swift Ski Trail#244 to head back down to the Sno-Park.
