The season ends with the best trip: even the targeted campsite was on a sand beach lakeside.

Mist At Bedtime

The ONLY negative was the colder than planned night (in the upper 30's) and the mist off the water which soaked everything.

What you can't see is the Canada goose that served as our alarm clock. While she had a beautiful voice, there was no snooze button.

This trip was originally planned as a confidence building trip prior to attempting the 27 mile southern part of the North/South Trail over this very same Columbus Day weekend. From the North Welcome Center, the hike will head south through the most populated portion of the North/South Trail. As usual, the target was what Maggie and I hoped will be a beautiful lakeside beach. This target campsite is south of Pisgah Bay just south of the Birmingham Ferry Recreational Area. RESULT: a perfectly beautiful sand beach. (Most beaches on KY Lake are gravel.) THE LAST TRIP OF THE YEAR WAS THE BEST. (Isn't that how it's supposed to be?)
