This hike begins behind camp 4 and the trail head is clearly marked.
The trail begins as a moderate uphill through a wooded area. The trail then comes to Colombia Rock where there are beautiful views of Half Dome and the entire valley.
After leaving the Colombia Rock the trail gets steeper and also gets rocky, which is what makes this trail strenuous is the combination of rocky footing and steep trails. There are many beautiful views of the valley and Half Dome along the way.
Once at the top the view is spectacular. The view of the falls is terrific, unless you take the hike in September like I did, when the falls are dry! Very sad.
The trail is clearly marked the entire trip. GPS waypoints on the map mark every turn.
