Elevation gain of about 4000' over 4 mile distance. Trail goes up and down significantly on three or four occasions with two or three good vistas along the way. We hiked on a beautiful Friday in August but only met two lone hikers: both were going the other way! Found out when we reached the hut that the more popular (and easier) approach is from the Appalachia trail head near Durand Lake via Valley Way or other parallel trails. Returned to trailhead via Valley Way and Randolph Path with a sleep over at the Valley Way tent platforms in rainstorm with 40-50 mph winds. Cool and rainy in the morning for the hike down.
