Trip started from the trailhead just before the cog railway parking lot. This is much less busy than using the Pinkham Notch Trailhead that ascends the peak from the eastern side. Trail began on the Ammonoosuc Ravine trail. Trail was in good shape and slowly ascended at first following the river. Eventually the trail increased in slope and was a definite calf burner to the alpine zone. Wonderful views of the valley below though and some gorgeous waterfalls and alpine pools along the way. The final push to the summit was made from the Lake of the Clouds Hut. This makes for a nice pit stop and lunch break, wonderful 360 views. The last ascent to the summit is not as bad as the beginning elevation gain. Summit was busy as usual but views were spectacular. Descended via the Gulfside trail that was a boulder hopping experience for about half way. Trail hit the Jewel Trail which looped back to the trail head parking lot. Overall, wonderful day hike to the highest point in the NE!
