| NATIONAL PARKS QUICKLINKS |
Hiked a mile or so in, forgot batteries for camera. Hiked back to retrieve. Swampy beginning, patially on DNR-maintained boardwalk. Campsite on Pigeon River taken, continued north. Saw deer very close near Ford Lake. Camped at Grass Lake, very peaceful. Dinner: Beef jerkey and Clif bars. Desert: Leinenkugel's Summer Wheat beer. Used magnesium fire starter with toilet paper tinder to start fire. Read a few chapters of Jim Harrison's "Sundog." Woke up at dawn, a loon called from the lake. Beautiful sunrise, mist rose from the lake. Beaver or otter (probably otter) swam in front of camp. Ducks flew directly overhead, squirrels chattered. Packed up camp, continued loop the next day. Pushed the pace a little, I should have taken my time. Arrived back at the truck with plenty of day left.
