On the way in, I went beyond the turning point to the old road north of Rhodes Bay so I could be sure to cover all of the North/South Trail. (See “Hiking the southern part of the north half of LBL’s North/South Trail”. Without this extra leg, this trip is only 3.85 miles.) Still, this was a very nice, fairly level hike through the woods. The only difficult part of this trip is the part that is off-trail, but if you follow the track here, you should stay on or close to the ridge tops all the way in. (Getting off the ridge tops [like I did on my way in] can result in a pretty annoying up-and-down climb in and out of some fairly steep gullies.) The trail has several beautiful views of Higgins Bay. (The track for this trip was recorded on a DeLorme PN-20, and it was edited with DeLorme Topo8.0.)
