This mountainous area is 30-45 min from Las Vegas. It includes may peaks in the 9000-1200' range. There is water at a few springs. The temperature here is roughly 30 degrees cooler than Vegas temps.
A hearty hike of 5.75 miles round trip. I did this with my 7 year old daughter Sage. There is great camping in the area including formal campgrounds with toilets, some even flush and showers or backcountry sites that are free but no toilets or fires (Apr 15-Nov. 15)Stoves ok. Email me and I can tell you about the free camping as they are not on the official maps. Take water and sunscreen as a must. We hiked with poles and were greatful. Water can be found year round at Mummy Springs .4 mi past the tree. Plan on a filter or other purification.
