Day 1 : Boat on the Voyageur II from Grand Portage, MN to Windigo. Drop the packs at Washington Creek Camground and hike the Hugginin Cove Loop trail. Moose visit the swamps and north lakeshore here. Be sure to check out the cove and the rocky areas just east of the camp.
Day 2 : Put the packs on and hike to Feldtman Lake. Remnants of moose are abundant, so keep on the lookout. Trail hugs Lake Superior until it turns inward onto a ridge with a nice view, then back down to the Lake.
Day 3 : Break camp and hike to the fire tower for a nice lunch break and head to Siskwit Bay and set up camp. The trail gives a nice variation in landscape and trees from aspen forests, to awesome lookouts even before the fire tower, to dreaded weeds covering the trail and covering yourself head high. Near Siskwit Bay, a wonderful wildflower meadow awaits.
Day 4 : Head north along the bay, then up the old mining road to Island Mine Campground for another nice lunch area, and head back to Washington Creek campground down the Greenstone Ridge Trail. Listen to the wolves howl at night. Keep an eye out for more moose that frequent this area.
Day 5 : Head back to Grand Portage, MN via the Wenonah boat.
