Great first family trip. End of July
Start Green Mountain Trail head (west side of RMNP)
- First day / night - 2.4 miles to South Meadows Campground (East side of Big Meadows). Most of the trips elevation gain is in this first leg. Camp site is next to the stream and on the edge of Big meadows. Great views.
-Second day/night - 1.5 miles to Sunset Campground north east of meadows. Campsite not near meadows, but semi-close to water. Fly-fishing was great. Campsite more elevated and roomy.
-Last Day about 3 ish miles out. Downhill mostly.
Pros: Big Meadows was beautiful. Fishing was great. Mamma and baby moose sighted in meadows on 2nd day.
Cons: Mosquitos were thick and annoying. Beetle kill on trees was sad to see.
Overall, the trip was a lot of fun and a great area for the family's first go around.
