Overlook
Location: 40.6803333, -110.8387333
My favorite place, a cliff near Packard Lake, a great place to gaze at the Duschesne Drainage and the world to the south.

BLUE LAKE IS BEAUTIFUL
01 In the basin.JPG
Location: 40.6966483, -110.8091354
Although the boundary of the basin is southwest, where the trail splits from Highline, to me, this opening at the meadow is where it now feels like Naturalist Basin. It's just beautiful.
02 Looking up to Mount Agassiz.jpg
Location: 40.6967784, -110.806303
A view to the northwest, just a hundred yards or so into the meadow area.
03 Jordan Lake.jpg
Location: 40.7053677, -110.7948875
After hiking onto the first terrace above the lake, this is looking back to the southwest.
04 Spread Eagle Peak.jpg
Location: 40.7104426, -110.7909393
You can see part of Shaler Lake in the lower right, with majestic Spread Eagle Peak looming over the basin.
05 Mt. Agassiz.jpg
Location: 40.7109631, -110.7924843
Looking to the west/northwest, moving up to the next terrace and Faxon Lake.
06 Rocky Sea Pass.jpg
Location: 40.7112234, -110.7929993
Looking the other direction, to the southwest. Rocky Sea Pass is between the two rises, an 11,000-foot pass into Rock Creek Basin.
07 Faxon Lake.jpg
Location: 40.7117438, -110.7972908
Facing northeat, to Spread Eagle.
08 Stream crossing.jpg
Location: 40.7112234, -110.7972908
The outlet is shallow and slow moving, so crossing is easy.
09 Faxon Lake from the west.jpg
Location: 40.7119937, -110.7985783
Just another view of the area. This is on the top terrace of Naturalist Basin. I love it up there. And today, with the breeze and slightly unsettled conditions, there were no bugs. :)
10 Alpine pond.jpg
Location: 40.7112234, -110.7994366
Even in mid-July, the ponds are still thawing. It makes me shiver just to look at it. And for some reason I had no impulse to take a swim.
11 Snow fungus.jpg
Location: 40.7105077, -110.8006382
Uh...fungus...on snow. I think it's cool. (No pun intended.)
12 LeConte Lake.jpg
Location: 40.7101173, -110.803299
By this point the winds had picked up a tad. It was still beautiful...and utterly bugless!
13 The terracing of Naturalist Basin.jpg
Location: 40.7083606, -110.8025265
You can actually see one little segment of Jordan Lake, with Rocky Sea Pass beyond. I love days like this--totally clean and free.
14 Outlet from Blue Lake.jpg
Location: 40.7041314, -110.8124828
Going south from Blue Lake you descend down a steep rocky section. It's a little surprising to look up and realize that there is a lake up there.
15 Leaving the meadow and going home.jpg
Location: 40.696388, -110.8086205
I love this trail, but I hate to leave. The trail is to the right of the stream and angles away quickly. Soon it's just forrested, with no stream sounds at all.
16 Nearly back to the car.jpg
Location: 40.7069292, -110.8538532
Looking up to Mount... uh... Whatzit. (That might not be the right name. Maybe it's something more like Hayden.) Oh, I don't have the exact location for this shot.
17 Scudder Lake.jpg
Location: 40.7012033, -110.8501625
I thought it was pretty.
