Distance: 21.3 miles

A three day trip on the Big Pine North Fork in the John Muir Wilderness. There are some hard climbs and scrambling over rocks on this trip, so not for those who want easy walking only.

This part of the John Muir wilderness, with its mixture of mountain vistas and pristine lakes, is a gorgeous and fun backpacking trip. Some of the trails on this map are bushwacking, but get yourself a good topo map and you can see which section is on trails and which is off-trail. There are lots of great camping spots, and I have tried to indicate a few of them. We went in mid June and had two inches of snow fall on us at night, so be aware of the temperatures and conditions.

I would highly recommend this trip!
