Mill Mountain Star Trail traverses from the Roanoke River to Roanoke's highest point - the summit of Mill Mountain (1703 ft.) and the Roanoke Star. This area offers 500 acres of parkland atop Mill Mountain, picnic areas, two overlooks that provide 20-60 mile vistas, access to additional hiking trails, the Mill Mountain Zoo and the Mill Mountain Discovery Center.

- Take I-581 to Elm Ave. / Rt. 24 (Exit 6)
- Turn onto Elm Ave. /Rt. 24E (heading away from downtown)
- Follow Elm Ave. to 9th St. and turn right
- Follow 9th St. across bridge to Riverland Rd. and turn left
- Follow ~0.2 miles to road on right with Mill Mountain Star Trail sign
- Turn right and go up hill to parking lot on left
Trail Description
- From the parking lot follow the signs uphill along the road
- The road ends and the trail continues through the woods
- Cross J.B. Fishburn Parkway
- Ascend to the top of Mill Mountain and the viewing platform next to the star
- Retrace your steps for the return trip
