| NATIONAL PARKS QUICKLINKS |
The trail begins @ the parking lot with up close views of Mummy Mountain and Kyle Canyon. In the first mile the hike steadily takes you up from the plentiful cover of pine trees to a flat clearing with great 360 degree views & to a place to camp. You can see Indian Springs from here & a little closer is the juvenile correctional facility. From here steep switchbacks lead you back into the forest, past small patches of snow which do get deeper as you near the highest point of the hike. Beware of losing the trail all the way up into late May. Your breath will be taken away - not only from being 10000ft high, but from the proximity to the unmistakenable Mummy's Toe. A 1/4 mile easy decent towards the base of the toe will take you down to the enormous & very old bristlecone pine tree they call Rainbow.
