Just south of Erie Pennsylvania the historic French Creek, founded by none other than George Washington, will provide the avid canoe fan a two-day float they will never forget. Embedded along the shore banks of small towns and deep forests French Creek is the perfect canoe river. Not too big not too small this river will take you into the thick forests of northwest Pennsylvania winding you through rich wildlife ecosystems. Just remember to keep your head up or the small rapids will engulf your canoe and before you know it you are swimming. Enjoy this two-day float with a friend or a brigade. Don’t forget your camera and sunscreen. Take a fishing pole or swimming trunks and enjoy one of the many fishing holes or for the more adventous jumping from the crossing railroad tressels. Many islands along the way provide the perfect location for setting up camp and enjoying a night under the stars. Note that the closer you get to Franklin the more tactical the river becomes so set your sights, find a partner, and enjoy this river the way George Washington did, by way of a canoe!<br />
