I've hiked this trail in sections and it's an easy to moderate hike with 3 shelters spaced equally along the way. The northern end is gentle hills and mostly dry while the southern sections are flatter and they can be on the wet side. However, there are large portions that are an elevated board walk in the wettest areas. Camping is allowed at the shelters. For those living on the eastern side of North Carolina, this is the only trail that is long enough for an overnight trip.
