Skip the Rattlesnake Rec Area crowds by using the Grant Creek trail head (just 5 minutes from Missoula!) and the ravine trail. One of the highest peaks in the Rattlesnake, Stewart Peak offers breathtaking views of the Mission and Swan ranges, the Missoula valley, and Lolo peak. A great trail makes for a technically easy but aerobically difficult, fast-paced 21 mile round tripper day hike, or use the trails to alpine lakes north of the peak for a picturesque campsite. Start early and enjoy wildlife and wild flowers through lodgepole and ponderosa forests and sub-alpine meadows! Bring lots of food & water, you'll gain 4,000 ft!
