Explore a massive outcrop of sandstone and hike to an easy to reach camp in the Sespe Wilderness. 5.8 mile round trip. After your hike, follow the Sespe River trail downstream to the first tributary entering from the left (Piedra Blanca Creek), follow the creek a short distance down to a nice pool on Sespe to cool off or take a swim. Directions: From Ventura, take Highway 33 north. After approximately 7 miles the freeway becomes a 2 lane highway passing through Casitas Springs and Oak View to Ojai. At about 7 miles from the end of the freeway, turn left at the traffic light onto La Luna. In 2.0 miles La Luna dead-ends at Highway 33. Turn left and follow 33 to the Rose Valley Recreation Area. Turn right and follow this road all the way until it ends at the Piedra Blanca trailhead. There you will find a large parking lot, outhouses and picnic tables. The parking area is day use only. Car camping is available nearby at Middle Lion and Rose Valley campgrounds. On your way to Rose Valley, you might want to stop at the Wheeler Gorge Visitors Center on your left, opposite Wheeler Gorge Campground.
