Wpt 11
Location: 35.3632545471191, -82.8639526367188
Turn left down a few steps, then steeply down through a series of switchbacks. In places, the creek and trail join, making sloppy going, and difficult navigation. One-fourth of the way down, it eases up, but is still rocky and steep.
Wpt 13
Location: 35.3579025268555, -82.8310775756836
A few campsites just off the trail, well above the gorge. From here, pass Wpt 3 and continue straight or N back to the parking lot.

Flower
Location: 35.3633003234863, -82.8288116455078
These delicate vase-like flowers caught my eye. Turns out they were some of thousands of bluberry bushes covering the mountains.

SRK Campsite
Location: 35.3676643371582, -82.8621215820312
A 15 minute hailstorm delayed my arrival, until 9:00PM, at the top of Shining Creek Knob. Views from here are spectacular, and there is a firepit and clearing for tenting. Notice the tall, thick scrub brush that populates the knob, except for trails. There is supposed to be a shortcut trail from here, NE to the trail to Dog Loser Knob, but I missed it in the dark.
White Trillium
Location: 35.3694915771484, -82.8502044677734
Lots of nice trilliums under the trees along this ridge.
Take NC exit 31 at Canton, S 1.9 to Hwy 19/23. E 3.7 to Hwy 110. S 5.7 to Hwy 276. SE 12 mi to the Big East Fork Trailhead. At 1/4 mi., go R and ascend from the 3,400' level to 6,000' at Shining Rock Knob. The initial ascent is steep to very steep. Old Butt Knob has many interesting older trees. Dog Loser Knob is dense with large scrub Rhodedendrons, hence it's name. Shining Rock Knob will reward you with outstanding views. Overnighting will allow side trips to Big Stairs Mtn, Cold Mt, or nearby balds. The initail descent is steep, but eases up some in the lower half. 8.3 miles.
