Start at the Mesa De Anguila trail head located at the far western boundry of Big Bend National Park near Lajitas. For the first half mile or so the hike is very easy, over the flat desert. You will be quickly met by a rise in the desert! The mesa rises about 1500ft. in about 1 mile. It's not that bad depending on the shape you're in. Once you reach the saddle there is an amazing view of a bend in the Rio Grande. The rest of the hike is relatively easy, with a few ups and downs, until you start to desend to the river. Watch your step and Keep your eyes peeled for a good campsite and a wild herd of horses.
Be sure to take a map and compass with you, the trail can be faint in some areas.
