Mt.Nittany

pa

Star Star Star Star Star

Distance: 5.5 miles

Take a 5 and a half mile hike equipped with 6 views!

Parking is located at the end of Mt. Nittany Rd in Lemont. Mt Nittany is quite popular in State College ( The Nittany Lions ). Although the last Mountain Lion spotted here or what they called panthers was back in the late 1800s. Still local lore says there are still two roaming free in the central mountain region. Another legend says that an indian tribe lived here (the mingos or the susquehannocks probably ). The legend has it that Nittany married an adventuring englishman who wandered into this area. They threw him into Penns Cave near Mt Nittany which is probably some advertising gimmick. Nittany died of sorrow and a mountain formed above her.
TRAIL
First actually find the trailhead.
1. Take what looks like a dirt rd and follow it.
2. A minor way in the hike a side trail with blazes goes to the right follow it.
3. Follow this trail to the top where usually a rock pile is then go right onto a blue blazed trail.
4.
