So the conditions were perfect for this race. The weather was great, the bands sounded fantastic, the route was well layed out and well protected by the police, and there were all kinds of freebies at the start and finish. ;-)
The only problem real problem that impacted most people was that as usual, the lines for the bathrooms were absurdly long.
The biggest problem that impacted me (besides waiting in line for the bathrooms) was that I really didn't train well enough. I'm not sure if it was the quality of my training, or the quantity. I knew that it was going to be a problem going into it, but as expected my ankles both started hurting early and kept hurting throughout the race. Surprisingly my knees adidn't give me the trouble I had expected; though it may have just hurt less and therefore got no attention ;-) That being said, I finished five minutes faster than the last time I ran this race... I'm not really sure how that happened.
The biggest embarasement of this race was wearing a Marathon number when I was running the Half Marathon. I really don't think I could have made it twice as far as I did, so I think I made the right choice to downgrade, but man is that a lesson in humility. Yikes!
Anyway, I enjoyed the run, I hope when the dust settles my body heals and I can go on to run this or other races again.
