Trailhead. This is a good way to enter the park without either leaving your car exposed along the highway of having to pay an entry fee. The trail which leads steeply up the mountain connects with other trail leading into the interior of the park.

This hike is a partly off trail climb to the top of a peak to the west of more frequently climbed Mugu Peak. The view is superior. Although the hike is short (approxmately 2 mile round trip), it is quite difficult due to the steepness of the route. Much of the trail is little more than a firebreak with short switchbacks; the last part of the climb follows game trails as they wind through thick stands of prickly pear cactus. DIRECTIONS: From Los Angeles, follow the PCH (Highway 1) past the Ventura County line to Mugu State Park. After passing the entrance to La Jolla Canyon, look for an orange tower on the ocean side of the highway, marking the Naval Base rifle range. The small dirt parking lot is directly opposite, on the mountain side of the highway. The trailhead is marked. No parking fee is required here.
