Need a break from the bustle of the strip or the hum drum of Vegas suburbia? Hiking around Mount Charleston feels like a world away, but it's on Vegas' doorstop. This in and back hike is doable by almost anyone and the reward at the top is great views down Kyle Canyon, trickling falls and a great log to eat your snack on. Mary Jane Falls hike follows a well marked trail up a valley into the pine forest where you'll climb some switchbacks that head up the right side of the valley for great views on the way to the falls. Charleston Peak and Mummy Mountain are all part of the highest area of the Spring Mountains Range and they'll loom over you as you gain altitude. Pack a sweater after October as snow collects on the peaks around you and by Christmas the trail is totally covered in snow which makes for a fun if not slightly slippery hike. The trail is leashed dog friendly. Wear sturdy shoes as the gravel is loose. The trail is 4 miles roundtrip.
