Partake in a hidden gem on this 5.6-mile circuit loop around the triangular 1st Flatiron that rewards with unmatched eye-level views of the Sacred Cliffs on Green Mtn.'s southern spine; at the summit benchmark, gaze upon the Great Divide surrounded by the Indian Peaks and LongÛªs Peak in Rocky Mtn. NP. After respite, connect spur trails to create a lightly traveled, albeit strenuous, route hugging the granite spire knifing into Boulder's western skyline. From atop Sunset Rock, youÛªll be up close and personal with the 3rd FlatironÛªs vertical mass. Pack wind gear, plenty of energy bars, and trekking poles for the steep, scree-laced scrambling sections on lightly traveled footpaths to Sunset Rock. TO TRAILHEAD: US36 N to Boulder; Baseline Drive W to Chautauqua Park; L into lot, park near ranger cottage
