Hiked the Castle-Medicine Root loop yesterday with my wife as a lollipop route from the Door/Window/Notch parking area. The weather was perfect and the abundance of rain this year made for lots of lush vegetation on the Medicine Root section, which arcs away from the main formations and provides a bit of a view from a distance. The Castle portion takes you past two canyons in the Badlands formation that you can't see from the road. We saw only a few other hikers so it was nice to get away from the crowds on the road. Take lots of water and wear shoes or boots. Open toes are not recommended! It took us about 2 hours to complete the lollipop, including times for photos.

This is a great loop, but the tagline is misleading: you won't see any bison along these trails. The park's bison herd can be seen in the Sage Creek Wilderness Area, farther west.
