Bitten By A Deadly Snake? Just Have A Beer

Australian man gets bitten by poisonous snake, relaxes with a cold one.

by: Ted Alvarez

Red-blooded American males, you are on notice: Dudes from down under are winning the hardman race. First came news of the Kiwi who got bit by a shark and stopped for a drink after stitching himself up. Now Australian news sources say Rod Sommerville got nipped by the terrifically poisonous eastern brown snake in his yard in Queensland, then calmly called an ambulance and simply cracked open a cold one on the porch while waiting for help to arrive.

"I said to myself, 'if I’m going to [die], I’m going to have a beer,'" he told the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin.

The eastern brown snake is the world’s second-most poisonous snake (I hope he had Australia’s second-best beer on hand).

I’m not willing to take this tough-guy race lying down. We don’t have access to the same caliber of poisonous snakes in the U.S., but if I walk through a field of 100 Eastern diamondback rattlers and get bit at least twice by each snake, I think we can get close to the same dosage of venom. Also, I’ll have a cube of PBRs on hand, so I feel confident I can at least drink more. Who’s with me?
