This is hands down the BEST daypack I've ever owned. I use it for hiking and for fly fishing. It's best feature is that you can load a lot of stuff in it and once on, not even feel it. It carries up to a 2L bladder with no problem, too. How did they do that? It carries beautifully. Highly recommended for those that want a great-carrying pack.

I'm on a budget. Why shouldn't I substitute a $10 pool float for a sleeping pad that costs $100 or more?

I think you should give it a whirl, Eldad! You only have 10 bucks to lose, after all! But make no mistake: your friends with real sleeping pads will be much better off. A pool float is inferior for several reasons:
