If that video is supposed to represent serious bushwhacking, westerners are really spoiled! (yes, I do know about Devil's Club and salal, though!)
Seriously, though, all the trees in the video were standing and not lying all over the ground, and pine needles are a lot softer than spruce! Try making a bushwhacking video of a trip through thick spruce blowdown in a cedar swamp along the Lake Superior shore!
