In southern Calif, we had a beautiful fire lookout tower in the Angeles National Forest, on Vetter Peak, but it was destroyed in the massive Station fire 2 years ago. There is another one in So Cal on Slide Mountain, near Pyramid Lake near Castaic.
I agree, no outlook review would be complete without Harney Peek. My family and I started in the morning, ate lunch at the lookout and were back at our tent that evening. What a wonderful day.
Indiana has the Deam Wilderness, and at one of the parking areas for trails is situated the Hickory Ridge Fire Tower, with great views of the hills of southern Indiana, particularly beautiful in early spring and autumn.
Don't forget Harney peak lookout in South Dakota which goes through the beautiful Black Hills. It offers stunning views of the Needles and not only takes you to a beautiful stone masonry lookout, but takes you to the highest point east of the Rockies!! It also offers the chance to see much wildlife. I have even seen a mountain goat taking shelter in the lookout!
