so cool :P
Nice timing. I just picked up some new insulating layers, gloves, and a new shell hoping to get some winter trail time up in WI and MI. 2 night shakedown run at Devils Lake State Park, WI next week. Hiking and rappelling.... fun fun fun.
Beginner winter camping? If I could attach a picture I would. I was at that very spot on Denali at the end of May, 11:30 am and minus 25F in the sun. I wouldn't have called it a "beginner" experience.
The term "Winter Camping" is so relative, most of our best camping down here in FL is in winter and its rare that that the temperature flirts with a frost before daybreak. Why not call it like it is "Cold Weather Camping"?
Michigan is not at 17,200 ft.
just in the pic above there is over $1500 in tents and $1500 in packs and climbing gear!
hahaha nice RICH hardcore winter camping!
Come to Northen Michigan and go camping with us and our fishing poles and bivy sacks... total value $99 + the cost of bait! hahaha
fudgies
Thanks for putting these articles out ... it came this week and this weekend is my first winter campout / mountaineering campout. Should be a lot of fun with new snow expected. Donner Summit here we come! Sierra Mountaineering Group!!!
Thanks for this series. I enjoyed snow camping as a youth and now live in MS. We don't get much snow here but some of the cold weather info is useful here too. Keep the info coming!!!
