Head to the RMNP for the highest designated camp–find out where below.
The Answer: Rocky Mountain National Park's 12,760-foot Boulderfield, a talus plain below Longs Peak's 14,259-foot summit. Camp here, and you're in prime position to bag the classic–two trail miles and 1,419 feet above.
The Way: From the Longs Peak trailhead, hike six miles on the Longs Peak Trail to the Boulderfield's nine tent sites. Weekends from mid-July through August are the toughest dates to score; call on March 1 for the best shot, or go midweek. ($20; 970-586-1242; nps.gov/romo)
