When I need a solid pair of insulated, waterprooof heavy duty boots (5.5 lbs) my $99 Rocky Sport Utility Pro Insulated Waterproof Boots (0007480) are my go to boots of choice. The 600 grams of Thinsulate keep my feet toasty in cold weather yet still breathe well in all but the hottest weather. I just returned from making a Thanksgiving weekend hike of the AR Eagle Rock Loop with it's dozens of stream and river crossings. After falling in the Lil' Missouri river attempting to boulder hop across, the next day I gave up on slick boulder hopping in the rain and taking off my boots during the wet crossings and just walked across knee high water in my boots and wool socks.
