Aron Ralston: The Movie

Danny Boyle, the Oscar-winning director of Slumdog Millionaire, will make a film about climber Aron Ralston next

Aron Ralston, the climber who famously cut off his own hand to escape from a boulder that pinned him in a Utah canyon, is getting the film treatment: Danny Boyle and the Oscar-winning team behind Slumdog Millionaire have announced plans to film Ralston's story for a late 2010 release.

127 Hours will portray Ralston's harrowing and now famous survival tale in Blue John Canyon, where he used a dull multi-tool to cut free his arm after being pinned by a boulder for days. Ralston climbed to safety and was later rescued.

Ralston's story generated country-wide fervor and even a bit of controversy in the outdoors community. Ralston has continued climbing and giving motivational speeches across the country.

No actor has been confirmed for the role, though Ryan Gosling is rumored to be interested. The Aron Ralston story certainly has all the makings of a blockbuster movie—would you watch it? Let us know in the comments section below.

Rebecca Treat-you're a fag. its called "touching the void". Well done asshole- you should become a motivational speaker.

OK, so the guy makes a few bonehead mistakes and gets himself into a bad situation. He admits that in his book. His story still has merit among other survival tales.

I agree with the other poster that 'Hero' is really not the appropriate term. I give Ralston credit for what he did and having courage and intelligence in the scenario. He survived when many most and for that I admire his will.

I will see the movie and look forward to the release, though I'm not looking forward to the 'self gratification' scene that is being so heavily discussed on other blogs.

Cheers.

Even a wolf will chew off its arm when trapped! We don't call a wolf a hero! This guy was an idiot! He is NOT a hero and does not deserve our praise!
The real heroes of the world do need our admiration, the selfless ones... who work to make the world a better place!
Not a selfish idiot who quits his job to be a high risk taking asshole "outdoors-man", that stupidly screwed up by not letting anyone know where he was going!! Then becoming a cop-out by giving "motivational" speeches to corporations and CEO's! LOL! What a loser!
Can anyone truly think of anything lower than being a motivational speaker? It's probably one of the most useless jobs on the planet! And this asshole is making $25,000 - $35,000 per speech for cutting off his own arm!
I WILL NOT WATCH THIS ASSHOLES MOVIE!

YES! It was a stunning story with the same astonishing immediacy, humaness and courage as "Facing the Void"...I hope the film is as well done...

I will wait to see on cable.

Nope. I don't think I'm going to give this retard any more attention than he deserves. Cool - he cut off his own arm. He could've done things differently to keep out of the situation he found himself in. I hike and camp solo all the time and there are certain precautions one must take - precautions that he obviously ignored.

Oh, and p.s. Yeah Aron...thanks for not calling any of us since 2003.

I am interested in seeing this. I actually know Ralston personally, or I used to. He used to be mountain biking buddies with my Dad and a friend who has a house in Durango. He was always the crazy one hopping his bike on the edges of large cliffs..."Take a picture!"

This is the biggest joke I have ever seen, Ralston is not a HERO. He was being stupid and got caught out bottom line.

I use the Brokaw video of Aron Ralston in my college English classes to teach students principles of writing (from note taking to peer review) and what it means to never quit (no matter what obstacles are placed before you - if Aron can make the sacrifices and can show the heart and drive to get out of Blue John, then students can drive themselves to get through college). I can't wait to add this movie to my syllabus (just as I did with Into the Wild).

The audio book is so compelling. It will make a great movie because there are so many flashbacks in the story. It's like it was written to be made into a movie. Aron Ralston, you're the man! Thank you for sharing your incredible story!

I'm sure I will watch it,,, I am part of the stunt team who will be filming the movie. James Franco is the actor, and we start shooting in March. I worked on "In The Wild" as the head rigger as well and am looking forward to doing this compelling story as well. We will take months to shoot his 127 hours of this ordeal... See you all at the theater!!! JD

Yes for sure I would watch it! I am reading the book now, I would love to see a movie about it.

can't wait to watch it.

I'll watch it for sure. Just hope the drama is real and not Hollywoodized.

Due to the current economic climate, I would probably wait until it came to $2 movie night or just Red Box it...but I would see it eventually.

Yes, I would watch the movie especially if Ryan Gosling stars in it.
