Tour de Arches

You can't backpack in Arches, but you can knock off all the best dayhikes in the Utah national park in a day.
  • From the 1-mile Park Avenue Trail, see the sandstone monoliths that comprise Park Avenue: The Courthouse Towers, The Organ, and the Tower of Babel. (photo: Ryan Horjus)
  • Check out Balanced Rock from the easy, .3-mile Balanced Rock Trail in the middle of the park. (photo: Ryan Horjus)
  • The size of three school buses, the actual rock that balances atop a stone pedestal to create Balanced Rock stands 55 feet tall. The entire formation is 128 feet tall. (photo: Ryan Horjus)
  • Balanced Rock used to stand next to a companion balanced rock—Chip Off the Old Block—but the formation toppled in 1975. (photo: Ryan Horjus)
  • Find Double Arch within the Windows area of the park of the relaxing, .5-mile Double Arch Trail. (photo: Ryan Horjus)
  • Double Arch accounts for one of the park’s 2,000+ cataloged arches. An opening must measure at least 3 feet to count as an arch. (photo: Ryan Horjus)
  • Seize an up-close view of Delicate Arch from the moderate, 3-mile Delicate Arch Trail. Or take the 1.8-mile Delicate Arch Viewpoint Trail and land this not-as-good, but-still-cool view of the iconic sandstone structure. (photo: Ryan Horjus)
